How Robotic Surgery Works

How robotic fertility surgery works

Many patients have questions about how robotic surgery works. You may associate ‘robotic’ functions with an inanimate object, but da Vinci robotic surgery enables a skilled surgeon to enhance his or her capabilities. The surgeon controls the robotic device, not the other way around.

After making tiny keyhole incisions in the pelvic area, Dr. Gehlbach stands at a remote console to operate three or four robotic arms. His hand movements direct the robotic arms with precision, affording him much greater range of motion than with traditional surgery.

The da Vinci method, FDA approved for reproductive surgeries since 2005, allows for super-magnified 3D digital views of the pelvic cavity, and enhanced dexterity through the use of robotic arms that the surgeon maneuvers.

Minimally invasive robotic surgery works to offer patients many benefits:

  • Less pain
  • Less blood loss
  • Fewer post operative complications
  • Reduced recovery time
  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Potential for improved surgical outcome

Dr. Gehlbach chose to master the da Vinci method for fertility surgery because he believes in offering a comprehensive array of services to treat infertility, so that his patients will have every opportunity to overcome their disease.

Contact Dr. Gehlbach, a certified da Vinci reproductive surgeon, to find out about surgical services at Midwest Reproductive Center, and the robotic method to address infertility. As with any surgery, individual results vary, and certain risks are inherent with the procedure.
