Infertility Awareness Week 2015

Midwest Reproductive Center promotes infertility awareness

Estimates suggest that 1 in 8 couples will face infertility, yet many people who deal with this issue feel isolated and alone. Dr. Dan Gehlbach and the team at Midwest Reproductive Center understand the stress and emotional pain that come from dealing with infertility. To help individuals and couples struggling to conceive, RESOLVE, a national non-profit infertility association, has chosen “You are not alone” as the theme for this year’s National Infertility Awareness Week, April 19-25, 2015.

The genesis of Infertility Awareness Week

RESOLVE has worked to keep the impact of infertility in the forefront of the public conscience by providing education and tools, including National Infertility Awareness Week. Originally created in 1989, National Infertility Awareness Week was designed to supply resources for individuals seeking treatment, inform the public on infertility in the community and educate legislators about the impact of infertility on their constituencies. National Infertility Awareness Week became a federally recognized health observance by the Department of Health and Human Services in 2010.

5 ways to encourage infertility awareness

Dr. Gehlbach and our team believe that educating people about the impact of infertility can help those individuals dealing with fertility issues feel more supported. The following tips can help you promote infertility awareness:

  1. Educate yourself on the facts about infertility.
  2. Share your infertility story with others.
  3. Utilize social media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to spread the word about infertility.
  4. Participate in a local infertility event.
  5. Advocate for infertility issues with your state and national representatives.
