Dr. Gehlbach Brings News from Beantown

We’ve just returned from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine’s 2013 meeting in Boston.

A collection of the nation’s leading fertility experts, clinics and equipment manufacturers were on display to deliver enlightening papers, discuss recent developments in fertility medicine, and get a close look at the latest technologies. We’ve even got video of our own Dr. Gehlbach at the meeting — check it out!

You may have heard of some of the items Dr. Gehlbach explains in the video clip. That first massive piece of equipment he’s gazing into is the DaVinci System used in many of our infertility surgery procedures. This robotic surgical tool enables us to perform even the most complicated surgeries as non-invasively as possible. It’s particularly useful for treating endometriosis, uterine fibroids, pelvic adhesions and other conditions where fine control is required, including reversal of tubal ligation for women who want to undo this method of birth control.

Dr. Gehlbach then gives a brief “show and tell” about some of the technological enhancements that you’ll see when we expand our facility in 2014. You’ll see two different pieces of equipment. The IVF chamber allows us to examine eggs in a protected environment while still in the procedure room. the IVF chamber keeps everything safe while we are completly the egg retrieval. The eggs are then taken to the lab for fertilization and growth monitoring. Next, you’ll see an IVF workstation that we plan to add to the lab next year; this workstation helps us vitrify (cryofreeze) eggs or embryos for later fertilization.

The best thing about this new equipment of course, is the fact that it will help us serve our patients more effectively than ever before. If you’d like to learn more about what our revamped lab might mean for your fertility chances, talk to Midwest Reproductive Center today!
